Is Lost a Corporate Conspiracy?
A MediaVillage.com SoundOff item from Brian asks "has anyone else noticed that the corporate logo that was on the
wall of the hatch/bunker on Lost was also on the fin of the shark???? Is this a company doing tests on the people that find themselves trapped on the island? Or is it a Truman show type thing?" Join the Lost discussion forums at MediaVillage.com to comment.
Indecency Claims Plummet
Last week the FCC quietly announced that indecency complaints plummeted 98 percent between the 1st and 2nd quarter of 2005. TV Watch's Jim Dyke suggests the easily-manipulated 'complaint'
number is used by some as evidence that we need more government control of TV content. Even the FCC admits that today's released 'complaint' number could be as large as six times the real number of complaints. The reason? If a single complaint gets copied to all six FCC commissioners it would be counted six times according to FCC policy.
Primetime Update: Week 2
Steve Sternberg of media agency Magna Global reports "compared to a year ago, overall television usage is up about 4 percent among total viewers, as well as both adults 18-49 and 50+." This is a significant increase, and is an indication that (at least so far) cable growth is not
coming at the expense of the broadcast networks. In other words, the combined six-network ratings are stable, despite continued growth in the cable sector. While still too early to make any real predictions, a few things seem clear. ABC is stronger than ever, and actually leads among most demos under 50. CBS is managing yet again to be relatively stable (and solid), and the network's strength among adults 50+ gives it an edge over ABC
among total viewers. FOX is up from last year because it started its season on time (instead of waiting to debut most series after the baseball post-season). NBC is continuing to slide. UPN is up from a year ago, and is actually ahead of WB for the first time among most demos. (See chart below)
