Beauty and the Geek is one of the best reality shows. If you disagree, it's only because a) you never watched either of the first two seasons, or b) you have no sense of humor. Beauty and the Geek has never been just another one of those reality shows. It's a cultural phenomenon and laugh-out-loud-roll-on-the-floor funny. Season three will not disappoint. I would seriously like to thank The CW for making the premiere two hours, because one hour of the show is just not enough. Need proof? Take, for example, when a beauty, Tori, asked her geek partner Sanjay if he got booty. Sanjay, whose title on the show is "virgin," later said:
"Booty to me means, you know, pirates' treasure is the first thing that comes to mind. But she explained to me that means actually sexual intercourse. And a lot of things started clearing up because I'm a big rap fan. Booty booty booty booty rock it everywhere." I watched that scene four times because I couldn't believe it. Of course when Sanjay asks the other geeks if they know what booty means, they all agreed it's pirates' treasure. You have to love them. How could you not? Now, let's be honest, as fanatical as I am with Beauty and the Geek in general, I actually am even more fixated on the show this season. Why? Because I know one of the "geeks," Matt. Since elementary school. And of course, he was the salutatorian of our high school graduating class. Matt was also one of the nicest guys. So, watching the show, I can't help but feel protective of him. Like when Matt realizes he has a crush on beauty Cecille. He's totally flirting with her (yes, so impressed by him!), and then in her confessional/interview (whatever you want to call it), she says she's not going to do anything with him and, "It's just that when I get bored I want someone to play with." Oh, Cecille, c'mon now, that's not right! And while yes, money is involved in the reward for the winners, it's not the only thing. I don't care if everyone out there thinks I am the cheesiest person in the world from what I'm about to say, but I LOVE that on Beauty and the Geek most of the contestants actually learn from the experience and grow from it. There, I said it. And think what you want, but it's true. So now I'm even more attached than usual, hoping hoping hoping that the geeks (Matt especially because I'm biased) really do learn from the show and gain confidence. To be totally honest, I never really cared if the beauties changed from the show. To me, they are on the show to make the guys feel better, to make me laugh, and to make me feel smart. See, ever since the first season, when the beauties were given trivia, and one of them didn't know that the state west of Virgnia was West Virginia, I realized that the beauties are really there to do the opposite of what Jeopardy does for me - they make me feel like a genius. Or, for example, this season when one of the beauties thinks the next presidential election is in November 2006. Think about that one for a second. Confused? Yeah, me too. Then again, the beauties, although slightly less often than the geeks, are also there to crack me up. All these reasons combined are what have caused me to become deeply ingrained in the new season. I have now also decided there is an Apprentice Omarosa type character, in the form of Matt's partner Andrea. At one point Matt even said in the premiere, "Andrea is very critical." She doesn't seem to want to help Matt, and instead is pretty harsh to him. It seems like Andrea's more in it to win the money and not to learn. So, when a HUGE twist comes about in the first episode, Andrea's selfishness tends to paint Matt in a bad light. I was beyond unhappy about this (as I said, I feel protective), and felt the need to tell my friend Rita from high school. She said, "That's bad news about Matt because I always thought he was so sweet, and sort of shy, and always embarrassed, which made him endearing." It seems that's how viewers feel about all the geeks on the show. We want the beauties to help them, not lower their self esteem further! So, listen Miss Andrea, you better shape up or the viewers are NOT going to be happy with you. In case you can't tell, Beauty and the Geek is the kind of show that gets you hooked. If you have any sense of humor at all, and/or have ever felt compassion, you need to check out season three of Beauty and the Geek. Don't forget to watch January 3rd at 8 p.m. on The CW.
