FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7

Passions (NBC, 2 p.m. ET, check local listings) NBC -- the network that is singularly determined to kill off broadcast soap operas -- has decided to dump its loopy (and uniquely diverse) supernatural serial after an eight year run. Passions has its last NBC telecast today, but as of September 17 it's going to continue on DirecTV, so fans who subscribe to that satellite service can remain enthralled by the bizarre goings-on in the town of Harmony, Maine. Prepare for multiple cliffhangers in today's episode -- including the murder of a main character.

Doctor Who (Sci Fi Channel, 8 p.m. ET) In the last episode, the Doctor and Martha escaped from deadly aliens by hiding out in a tiny town in 1913 England. To further protect them the Doctor erased his own memory and assumed the persona of a mild-mannered teacher. But that didn't stop the evil ones from finding our heroes. See how it all works out tonight.

Dog Whisperer (National Geographic Channel, 8 p.m. ET) Season Premiere. Cesar Millan begins a fourth season of doggie behavior modification by seeking to restore peace at a North Hollywood apartment building filled with canine neighbors that don't get along. Then he moves on to a stressed out couple that can't cope with three troublemaking dogs while running multiple businesses.

Lucy Must Be Traded, Charlie Brown (ABC, 8:30 p.m. ET) In this 2003 special, the start of another baseball season has team manager Charlie Brown hoping that Lucy will not sign up to play because he blames her for his team's 900 straight losses. As ever, nothing works out the way poor Chuck would like it to.

Fashion Rocks (CBS, 9 p.m. ET) Premiere. The fourth annual Fashion Rocks concert is set to include performances by Mary J. Blige, Maroon 5, Chad Kroger, Aerosmith, Carrie Underwood, Avril Lavigne, Fergie, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Ludacris and Martina McBride. Jeremy Piven is the host. Also scheduled to appear: Jessica Alba, Mischa Barton, Teri Hatcher, Denis Leary, Sean Diddy Combs, Tyra Banks and LeAnn Rimes. The concert will be taped on September 6 at Radio City Music Hall.

Psych (USA Network, 10 p.m. ET) Shawn and Gus help Chief Vick find a new nanny while investigating a series of home burglaries.
