I am sure the opportunities given us by the IRTS Foundation are now fully understood. We learn as we go. But what does a week in the life of a summer fellow look like? It varies, because each of us have our own internship placement and experiences. Here are mine.

Though every day does not follow the same distinctive pattern, each day of my internship is always filled with learning and excitement. I am completely remote, but my experience transcends my laptop screen. My mentors, managers and fellows connect and support one another not only on Zoom or Microsoft Teams but in person and via text. I have met people nationwide and have been blessed to learn and share so much about myself and others.

My day typically starts off with a meeting or a check-in. As an Ad Sales Intern at UPtv, I have been exposed to so much information about what it takes to sell an ad, what it may cost and what the overall process is like. I can now say that I am proficient in DealMaker, which is a hub of information for ad sales during the Upfront season. It has been so interesting to learn about behind-the-scenes programming and to listen in on conversations with such incredible professionals.

I have joined in on BERG (Black Employees Resource Group) meetings and have been able to meet with co-workers during weekly virtual coffee chats. I have learned so much more about marketing, creativity and planning, all of which work together to make lasting impressions on audiences. This week I finished an Upfront analytics project and started on a project for the client solutions team.

Once my workday is over, our fellowship meetings begin. This week we heard from the Active International team, as well as Carl Celiny (Director of Business Development at The Trade Desk) and Debra OConnell (President of Networks for Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution). All these speakers presented us with beneficial resources and valuable advice on navigating our careers and exploring our interests. My notebook is packed with quotes and tips given by our presenters that I will most definitely be keeping in mind throughout my current and future endeavors.

As the end of my week approaches, I always remember to practice and maintain self-care. I drink tea, spend time with my family, and catch up on my favorite shows. I also make sure to ground myself with positive affirmations.

I am incredibly grateful to be where I am, and I know I am beginning an exciting journey in my personal and professional life.
