Here’s my curated list of recommended TED and TED U Talks from this year’s TED 2011

The Rediscovery of Wonder www.ted.com. Most of these talks have not yet been posted, but will be in the next several weeks. We will add links here. Depending on your personal passions and interests, there may be several TED Talks that you will value, but that I’ve not included. Best to check out the full program at www.ted.com and be your own curator.

Ted Talk by TED Prize winner JR, whose vision is to help us reveal our true selves to those who live around us.

TED Talk by Sarah Kay, a 22-year old performing poet, whose Project VOICE is teaching poetry and self-expression at schools across the United States. WINNER: JACK MYERS BEST OVERALL TED TALK 2011.

TED Talk by Salman Khan, a hedge fund analyst who began posting math tutorials on YouTube in 2004 and now has posted more than 2,000 tutorials that represent a framework for the future of education. BEST HOPE-FOR-HEDGE-FUND-ANALYSTS AWARD

TED Talk by Deb Roy, whose studies on how children learn language are informing a major new intelligence resource for advertisers and TV content creators. WINNER: MOST RELEVANT TED TALK FOR MEDIA COMMUNITY

TED Talk by Anthony Atala, whose lab at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine is engineering over 30 tissues and whole organ. Atala “printed” a kidney during his TED Talk. BEST TED TALK FOR MEDICAL ENGINEERING BRILLANCE

TED Talk by Morgan Spurlock, who shines a new light on some people you know,in his new filmThe Greatest Movie Ever Sold RUNNER UP: MOST RELEVANT TED TALK FOR MARKETING COMMUNITY.

TED Talk by Ford Motor Company Chairman Bill Ford, who focused on his lifelong passion for the environment, but who failed to demonstrate Ford’s understanding of the need for improved public transportation. I hope TED curators package this Talk with Cindy Gallop’s eloquent reply.

TED Talk by Pepsico CEO Indra Noohi, who was praised for her company’s commitment to the Pepsi Refresh campaign, but who missed the point of TED by ignoring her company’s response to the environmental impact of plastics and the contribution of sugar drinks to obesity. WINNER: MOST RELEVANT TED TALK FOR MARKETING COMMUNITY.But watch Morgan’s video first.

TED Talk by New York Times columnist David Brooks, who points to emotion as offering the deepest sense of what it takes to thrive. “Emotion is contagious. Reason is not the highest of faculties. Sentiments are strong and trustworthy.” RUNNER-UP: MOST RELEVANT TED TALK FOR MEDIA COMMUNITY

TED Talk by director, designer Julie Taymor;what might have been a triumphant curtain call, turned into brave defense and hopeful optimism. Whatever the fate of Spiderman, Julie will triumph again.

TED Talk by composer, conductor Eric Whitacre’s classical music videocomposed by cobbling together more than 2000 musical submissions from 58 countries. A TED premiere. People will go to any length to connect with each other. MOST EMOTIONAL

TED Talk by Polar Photographer Paul Nicklen;anyone who can share such compelling arguments for climate change needs to be seen and heard.

TED Talk Sunny Brown, one of several speakers who focused on educationand who backstopped the TED community’s new educational underwriting program, TED ED.

TED Talk by Bobby McFerrin, who when asked to name his greatest wonder, he said it all for everyone: “Waking up every morning.”

TED Talk by neuroscientist Antonio Damasio;the wonder and mystery of conscious minds.

TED TALK by Béatrice Coron, MOST ECLECTIC,unless you like paper-cutting, in which case it’s BEST MAINSTREAM.

TEDU Talk by Bill Gates.A TEDster who knows how to win over a crowd. Bill was everywhere at TED.

TED Talk by MIT’s Carlo Ratti, who demonstrates how every atom is becoming a sensor and actuator.Our environment is talking back to us in real time.

TED Talk by Dennis Hong, beyond inspirational. Paralyzed downhill skier walks for first time in 19 years.

TED Talk by FIORENZO OMENETTO.I’m recommending this one to myself first, before I comment.

TED Talk by Kate Hartman. FUNNIEST AND CUTEST.In a conference hall generally devoid of laughter and glee.

TED Talk by musician Jason Mraz,whose songYou Fuckin’ Did Itcould become a hit.

TED Talk by General (ret.) Stanley McChrystal;impressive. TED’s audiences in Long Beach need to keep in mind that TED Talks are now broadcast to the world and have a long shelf life. Controversial issues are likely to be avoided. TED’s audiences are friendly and welcoming to widely diverse points-of-view.

TED Talk by Wrongologist Katheryn Schultz.I have a great idea but I’m probably wrong about it. MOST IMPORTANT TO VIEW
