Jhulenty Delossantos on His Journey from the Dominican Republic to CBS' "The Equalizer" (Video)

Delossantos was first introduced on the series in episode 12 of season three, when his shady character Lo-Lo was caught delivering a package to a promising young pugilist at the gym where Robyn McCall's daughter takes boxing lessons. (McCall, the title character, is played by Queen Latifah.) "I was working with Malik Yoba and it was interesting to see how he works," Jhulenty says. "There were moments when I could see his process and how he gets into character. He was creating this inner life right there on the spot and I kind of took that and began to play with it in my own way and bring that element that was needed into the scene. It was a great learning experience."

I often ask my guests to name the actors they saw in movies or on television who made them feel represented for the first time. I am especially curious about actors who grew up in Latin America as they are often surrounded by people who look like them. "We watched a lot of the same movies over and over again," Jhulenty recalls. "I'd love to tell you that I saw an actor who was Latino and that's where I drew inspiration but that wasn't the case. What I got a lot of inspiration from were content creators on YouTube doing their thing. A lot of them were African American and that creative aspect and culture was something I identified with. That's what sparked it for me."
