Last year's MFM Annual Conference had no fewer than six separate sessions -- and countless other mentions in breakouts, roundtables and mainstage presentations -- about the Metaverse and cryptocurrency.  Everyone wanted to learn more about how these two staggering and seemingly inevitable technological developments were going to affect their families, their professions and their companies.

What a difference a year makes.

The cryptocurrency market meltdown and decisions by both Meta and Disney to deemphasize their investments in Metaverse construction have combined to hit the pause button on the breakneck pace of these two technologies.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not doubting the potential impact of the Metaverse or cryptocurrency on the media and entertainment industry.  I'm just saying that despite predictions made at the 2022 Annual Conference, I haven't used cryptocurrency to purchase an NFT wardrobe for my avatar on the Metaverse yet.

What's the buzz at the 2023 Annual Conference? Not surprisingly, technology issues top the agenda for many of the breakout sessions. But this year the issues hit much closer to home for financial professionals in the media and entertainment industry. They include sessions on what financial executives need to know about artificial intelligence, the rapid transformation to FAST content distribution, and the convergence of technology and entertainment as interactive games transform into television programs and feature films.

Want a peek at what's around the next corner? You'll want to sit in on sessions about the future of streaming, the financial implications of changing consumer habits, and how to prepare for the windfall of revenue from the 2024 elections.

There are also sessions on utilizing technology to reduce costs and increase cash flow, dealing with ESG regulations, understanding the impact of sports betting and sports streaming, and improving credit and collections practices.

Add in general sessions with best selling business author and teacher Jim Collins, panels discussions with the industry's leading public policy advocates and financial executives, roundtable discussions with peers in your sector of the industry, and a solutions center with dozens of companies demonstrating the latest products and services to help you do your job better and you've got an event with something for everyone.
