Project Runway’s Rami Kashou, Christian Siriano and Jillian Lewis faced off last night in Season Four’s finale episode. I need to steal a word from Christian and describe the designers’ collections as nothing short of fierce.

All season long I wondered, “Where is the drama?”  I longed for a showdown that was on par with that of Season 3’s Laura Bennett and Jeffrey Sebelia. I think the absent drama of Season 4 manifested itself in the runway collections, which the judges agreed were undoubtedly the best to date.  Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia were joined by guest judge, Victoria Beckham.  You have to wonder if Victoria Beckham was the producer’s first choice since she landed herself on the top of Blackwell’s list of 2007’s Worst Dressed.

Jillian’s collection showed first.  Overall, the looks were true to her style.  The judges were most impressed by her knits, which were a first for a Project Runway finale collection.  She nearly had a breakdown in the days preceding the runway show when she realized she’d haphazardly chosen models of varying heights, but when it came down to it, nobody noticed.

Rami’s collection showed after Jillian’s.  Known for his draping, he also incorporated pleating, ruffles and weaving.  The judges’ only criticism was for his color choice.  The favorites among the collection were the final two evening gowns, which featured extremely intricate detail work.

From the start of the episode (perhaps even the season), it became incredibly evident that Christian was a shoe-in. He became humble once Jillian and Rami unveiled their collections, which was a refreshing contrast to Christian’s typically feisty and confident demeanor.  The last to show, his collection elicited spontaneous applause from the audience at several points.  His final look, a two-tone feather gown (pictured right), nearly got a standing ovation.  Once Christian made his way down the runway, half the height of his two-toned and feathered model, it became clear why he was voted Season 4’s fan favorite.  He’s the total package of skilled designer with tons of entertainment value.

A little known fact is that the top five designers showed collections during the Merecedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City.  The fashion show occurred weeks ago on February 8.  In order to avoid spoilers from circulating, Chris March and Sweet P served as decoys.  All of the collections can be viewed here.
