It’s Sun Valley time again (try singing it to Jerry Jeff Walker’s “Sangria Wine”) … let’s run one by you once again as both Shari (not Sumner) Redstone and Phillipe Dauman are scheduled to be there already. Would be nice to be a fly in the tents this year …

What will Dr. John Malone add to his growing interests in Lionsgate?  It is nice to note the good doctor has extensive assets in both Great Britain (well, London, soon to be an oasis in Little England) and on the European continent … that means Liberty Global is better positioned than many companies based in London for access to the fracturing EU.  Discovery looks pretty good, too.

So how will Rupert Murdoch explain his backing of Brexit?  And, did he short the pound?  Three major UK property funds won’t give money back to investors … for now.

Meanwhile, here in the fracturing and bickering States, emails matter less than yesterday, it’s Shark Week and it keeps raining in the high country. Election coverage almost feels like all-Trump-all-the-time with revolving and repeating “news” about everything historically negative coupled with the latest outrageous pronouncement followed by a semi-serious-but-factually-challenged speech-via-TelePrompTer (as we spelled it back when it was not a generic noun).

The Yahoo! saga continues with latest round of bids due this week with numbers that come close to matching what Marissa Mayer spent for irrelevant acquisitions.

Fun fact: With Zika on the Brazilian horizon, OFF! has signed on as a major Olympic sponsor. Can NBC concentrate on the Games … or will Rio’s rot take away the thrills?  As a one-time very lucky attendee at a number of Games, I worry.  Fingers crossed that the athletes dominate … and that Brazil can find its way out of its own mess.
