So You Think You Can Dance has a panel of star-studded guest judges lined up for Season 8. For the first live competition episode, which airs tonight, former Will & Grace star, Megan Mullally, will sit next to Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy. Aside from playing Karen Walker on the hit comedy, Mullally has also been a regular to the Broadway stage in classics such as Grease, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying and Young Frankenstein. Lady Gaga, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen DeGeneres and Kristen Chenoweth are also slated to have a turn in the third judge's chair, which last year was filled by Adam Shankman. Traditionally, the guest judges on SYTYCD have been choreographers and famous dancers. While the dance competition's counterpart, American Idol, has been aggressive in incorporating pop icons, SYTYCD, for the most part, remained focused on the dancing. For better or worse it looks like So You Think You Can Dance is attempting to fit in with the reality competition bunch. Hopefully it will not lose sight of what has made the show so successful in the past -- bringing the love and art of dancing to the mainstream. Will glitzing up the judges panel change this?
