Many of you may already have seen press releases announcing the Good Works Better Alliance(GWBA), a new fundraising initiative designed to put the huge interest in social networks to work on behalf of nonprofits and NFPs.

The Good Works Better Allianceis underwritten by Vidsense – the Web’s largest video ad network – as a turnkey package offered to the social network giants to help generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for worthy nonprofit and NFP causes at a time when a very soft economy translates into very hard realities across the board.

“Social networking giants like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are in a unique position to do good on a scale never before imagined,” says Jaffer Ali, Vidsense CEO. “And we have devised a plan to leverage their traffic on behalf of nonprofits and NFPs the world over.”

Here’s how it works: Social networks will offer thumbnail access to popular, family-friendly television and movie clips on high-traffic and member pages. Vidsense will donate a percentage of proceeds from each and every resulting video view to one or more worthy causes as designated by the social network. Best of all, there is no cost whatsoever either to participating social network sites or their members. And as mentioned above, Vidsense underwrites the entire process as part of a complete turnkey package that includes the licensed video, server fees, and player technology.

The mechanics are equally simple: Each time a thumbnail video link is clicked, a new sponsored browser window opens to play the requested clip, after which the viewer closes the window and returns to the site that launched it. For those of you still new to Vidsense, the Vidsense video library offers more than 80,000 licensed, family-friendly clips, everything from classic movies and TV to popular culture.

“We already have more than 20,000 websites in our publisher network,“ says Jaffer, “but it’s hard to imagine a better use of a social network’s inherent strength-in-numbers than in helping those worthy organizations that epitomize the very spirit and intent of social networking.”

The Good Works Better Alliance will also seek established high-traffic NFP and nonprofit GWPA partner sites who would like to deploy the Vidsense model as a high-octane, no-risk fundraising tool. “We are proposing a simple, proven way to generate literally millions of dollars for worthy causes without anyone having to take out their check book or credit card,” says Jaffer. “We welcome the chance to put our money where our mouth is, just as we welcome any and all referrals, promotional help, and good wishes from our friends and colleagues on the OldTimers list.
