The Women in Media Mentoring Initiative was founded by Jack Myers with the mission of connecting female professionals in media, marketing and advertising at all levels of their careers.
For over 20 years, Jack Myers has worked across the spectrum of the media industry, from sales and management at major television networks to producing critically acclaimed documentary films for the world's largest brands. While researching the first generation of Internet Natives for his book Hooked Up: A New Generation's Surprising Take on Sex, Politics and Saving the World, Jack perceived the need to help foster relationships among women working in media and create a welcoming and empowering environment for women joining our community. In 2011 the Women in Media Mentoring Initiative was born.
The first WIMMI event was actually a dinner of 16 of us -- all industry friends of Jack's that he wanted to introduce. Everyone at the dinner had a great time meeting and we all agreed that we could use some mentoring in our lives and the opportunity to meet more women with similar career goals. Jack promised the group if we could plan the next meeting, that he would support it and help it grow. And that is just what we did!
Today, we've connected over 1500 women at our events and are continuing to grow in New York City and across the country.
