"Gossip Girl" Fans Search for Free, Streaming Episodes As Plotlines Get More Outrageous

Serena van der Woodsen killed someone. Eric van der Woodsen is gay and also happens to be dating Jenny Humphrey’s former main squeeze, Asher. And Georgina Sparks continues to stir up plenty of chaos on the Upper East Side. Yet Gossip Girl ratings have significantly declined in the women 18 to 34 demo since the series returned on April 21 (down from a 2.9/8 share to a 2.1/6 share, according to The CW).

While broadcast TV ratings in general have declined since programming initially returned from the WGA Strike, you have to wonder just what kind of shocking plot twist would have to occur on Gossip Girl for the ratings to spike. And since online streaming episodes have been pulled down, doesn’t seem there’s much else that CW executives can do to increase the number of television viewers.

The Gossip Girl message boards continue to burst in response to the disappearance of free, streaming episodes. Tales of broken DVRs and frantic searches for illegal downloads abound.

With the explosive buzz about Serena’s confession as well as Eric’s outing, I’m sure even less loyal Gossip Girl fans will be tuning into this Monday’s episode when Serena continues on her downward spiral and cheats on nice-guy boyfriend, Dan Humphrey. Singer, songwriter and actress, Lisa Loeb, as well as famous cake designer, Sylvia Weinstock, will guest-star as themselves in the episode.

For more on Lily van der Woodsen and Bart Bass’s upcoming wedding, check out their wedding site. Fans of the show on Facebook can RSVP to the big event. The couple are to be wed during the season finale on May 19th. The big question is whether or not Lily van der Woodsen and Rufus Humphrey’s lingering affection for one another will halt the marriage.
