Mainstreaming of Games -- When Tech and Entertainment Converge (Video)

While gaming has been around a surprisingly long time, the past 20 years have seen a surge of growth, and it has now eclipsed the market size of other entertainment verticals. In this interview from MFM's 2023 Annual Conference, IDG Consulting President and CEO Yoshi Osaki tells Joe Hanratty, Vice President Studio Controllership, Home Entertainment and Games Accounting at Warner Bros. Discovery, how console, PC and mobile gaming have collectively become a $200 billion industry, and why its revenue continues to trend upward despite various market conditions. "Gaming is too big to ignore," Osaki says. "It's clicking on all cylinders."

Osaki and Hanratty also discuss the potential pros and cons of generative AI used to create games; how gaming and the movie industry are becoming fast partners, with several movies incorporating gaming being released this summer; the "East meets West" phenomenon, in which the U.S. and Asia are converging and joining forces to accelerate the industry; why we should keep our eyes on Saudi Arabia, which has become the most active investor in the industry; the new games Osaki calls "the ones to watch," and more.
