Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2019 Preview

The theme of Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2019 is "Intelligent Connectivity" -- the next generation of smart business, homes, factories, transportation and people, places and things.  It began with the launch of Sputnik and rapidly evolved with the rise of smartphones over the next decade.  It is now in a phase of hyper-growth and super adoption.

Mobile World Congress begins February 25 and runs through February 28.  It's the world's largest gathering for the mobile, telecom and IOT industries and is attended by over 101,000 people from 204 countries, who gather to discuss the future of innovation and the world economy.  MWC is also a showcase for the latest innovations and leading-edge technology from more than 2,500 top companies.  In a sense it's of greater consequence than the WEF in Davos, as the blueprint of innovation and the future economy is implemented there.  Over 6,000 CEOs will attend.  This year Satya Nadella, Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft and Dieter Zetsche, Board of Management of Daimler AG are speaking.

This year the Internet of Things, the changing consumption of content and media by consumers, new and disruptive technology platforms and the impact of green energy powering the digital economy will be among the key themes.  MWC is the best venue for mobile, brand, media, IOT and telecom industry networking, new business development opportunities and deal making.

The core advantage of MWC, and the reason why I have attended since 2007, is that it is a global marketplace.  Attendees meet new people, experience new technology and of most importance get a sense of the global pace of change vs. that of the U.S.  It has grown into an essential event for executives who want to lead their organizations through a rapidly changing world economy.
