There's nothing new about a television network posting a promotional video for an upcoming series on YouTube. But it isn't all that common for a video premiere to be timed to a press conference at one of the twice yearly Television Critics Association tours. That was the case during CBS' time at TCA on Monday when, just as a panel for the upcoming "Supergirl" was getting underway, a brand new video about the show was posted.

Surprisingly, or maybe not at this point, YouTube has been a significant part of the conversation during CBS' TCA day, first because of the announcement prior to the opening session with CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler that the network's new late night star James Corden is going to tape the August 21 edition of "Late Late Show with James Corden" at YouTube Space L.A. in Santa Monica with a guest list comprised of popular YouTubers.

Then, along came "Supergirl."

For some reason, there are no plans at the moment for any cross-overs or narrative references between "Supergirl" on CBS and "The Flash" and "Arrow" on The CW, even though the title characters (and many of the supporting players in each) reside in the D.C Comics universe, all three shows are produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, and CBS and The CW are sibling networks. Tassler did say Monday morning that there will be "crossover promotions." Melissa Benoist plays the iconic title character.

Fun fact: When "Supergirl" debuts on October 26, it will be the first time since 1949 that CBS will not have sitcoms scheduled from 8-9 p.m. on Monday nights.
