In the Months Before Christmas -- 2022

MediaVillage is pleased to continue a popular tradition with the publication of Steve Fajen’s annual holiday poem.

In the months before Christmas COVID was low,

The boosters had worked, that we now know.

So, get one for shingles, pneumonia and flu,

Try lifting your arm, once you are through.

Some pot shops were nestled among other stores,

Selling gummies and weed just inside the door.

The license-less shops the cops left alone,

So New Yorkers were happily shopping while stoned.

When out at the gas pump there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my checkbook to see what was the matter.

Away from my wallet money flew like a flash,

Inflation ran rampant, took most of my cash.

The One/Six Committee appeared on TV,

Giving luster of stardom to the aide Cassidy.

When what to my wondering eyes just occurred?

They raid Mar-A- Lago when the Donald demurred.

Then old Merrick Garland not so lively or quick,

Appointed Jack Smith to make matters stick.

More rapid than eagles the votes trickled in,

And we watched as the red wave didn’t begin.

Now Walker, now Oz, now Kerry Lake lose.

How much was due to the right we may choose?

But Kelly, then Hobbs and Fetterman win,

While Abrams and Beto O’Rourke go tailspin.

Biden’s approval stopped going down,

When he sent to the Court Ketanji Brown.

While up in his home Paul Pelosi got hit,

And up at her House Nancy just quit.

And then, in a twinkling, DeSantis became,

According to Trump, sanctimonious by name.

Yet Cheney stood ground and called out the liars.

She lost her seat, but so did deniers.

He was dressed all in pinstripes, from his head to his shoe,

By the end of the season Judge hit sixty-two.

Brady quit then returned, nearly went all the way,

But the Rams with Stafford carried the day.

Then with the record Serena gave up,

While Argentina won the World Cup.

The Astros caught cheating a few years ago,

Returned to the top to win at the show.

McKinnon and Davidson left SNL Live,

At the Oscars Will Smith gave Chris Rock a high five.

Protests in China, protests in Iran,

While Putin's in trouble, Zelensky's the man.

Wave goodbye to the Queen after seventy years.

She had class and deserves us to shed a few tears.

Don't forget Gorbachev, "Tear down that wall."

And one for Bill Russel, so many ways tall.

Chesapeake, Uvalde, Colorado Springs,

Still protect our guns say the right wings.

More than six hundred times mass shootings were here,

That's not in a decade, that's just in this year.

Some say we're divided and gone too far,

They say that chaos is now who we are.

I don't believe that, I don't think they're right.

Happy Christmas to all, hold that thought and good night.
