If you missed it be sure to read my reviews of the many new series premiering this fall on Fox and NBC And then move on to the networks belowABCBlood ampamp Oilamp160pictured at top amp8211 Great concept cool cast uneven but promising pilot Primetime is always the right time for a sexy serial and this could be the new amp8220Dallasamp8221 that TNTamp8217s poorly plotted reboot of the old amp8220Dallasamp8221 never managed to beDr Ken amp8211 Fetid Perfectly awful in every way It gives NBCamp8217s amp8220Truth Be Toldamp8221 a run for its money as the seasonamp8217s worst new showThe Muppets amp8211 My concerns about the start of the 201516 broadcast season can be summed up in one sentence The latest presentation of a 40yearold franchise amp8211 omnipresent for four decades is the fallamp8217s most promising new series That was obvious way back in May during Upfront week when ABC released a riotously funny clip Nothing has changedQuantico amp8211 Interesting premise highly appealing cast But the presentation of midtown Manhattan in the immediate aftermath of a major terrorist attack that demolishes Grand Central Station is so completely lamebrained it wonamp8217t surprise me if this one quickly fades awayCBSAngel from Hell amp8211 More like critic in hell amp8230 thatamp8217s how I felt watching this aggressively humor challenged clump of socalled comedy Jane Lynch is remarkably grating in the title roleLife in Pieces amp8211 CBSamp8217 other curiously humorless new fall comedy would seem to be relatable only to families that reside in Pacific Palisades or Pasadena But its cast includes James Brolin Dianne Wiest Thomas Sadoski and Betsy Brandt so Iamp8217m not writing it off yetLimitless amp8211 Via my own personal litmus test Iamp8217m calling this one a winner The details Critics donamp8217t seem to care for it but every amp8220ordinary civilianamp8221 with whom I have shared the pilot has loved it I remember when that happened with the original amp8220CSIamp8221 Plus Recurring appearances by Bradley CooperSupergirl amp8211 The pilot is full of holes bigger than the one left in the middle of New York City in ABCamp8217s amp8220Quanticoamp8221 which cannot be explained here without including spoilers so all Iamp8217ll say is they largely involve Superman and super criminals But amp8220Supergirlamp8221 is colorful energetic and full of life and its cast has a dizzying appeal Can an aggressively youthful show of this kind take flight on CBS Iamp8217m thinking definitely maybe Fun Fact The scheduling of this hourlong amp8220dramaamp8221 on CBS at 8 pm Monday marks the first time the network hasnamp8217t run sitcoms in that hour since 1949Code Black amp8211 More like Code Blecch The medical goop and glop gets a bit overwhelming at times and the characters arenamp8217t nearly as distinctive as those in the early years of amp8220ERamp8221 and amp8220Greyamp8217s Anatomyamp8221 But star Marcia Gay Harden is always terrific which makes this show one to root forThe CWCrazy ExGirlfriend amp8211 Talented Rachel Bloom winningly portrays an emotionally unstable single woman who stalks a man across the country in this bubbly musical comedy filled with creepy personal drama and fun production numbers I think the title character is way too intense for weekly consumption on a network where even the charming amp8220Jane the Virginamp8221 canamp8217t find an audience Maybe Iamp8217ll be pleasantly surprised on both countsThe opinions and points of view expressed in this commentary are exclusively the views of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of MediaVillageMyersBizNet management or associated bloggers
