James is the global CEO of Standard Media Index (SMI). He has been with SMI since 2011 when he first joined as Chief Commercial Officer, taking over the CEO role in 2016. James is passionate about bringing clarity to the fast-moving media ecosystem and helping companies improve their effectiveness around advertising solutions.
Prior to joining SMI James owned and ran a sales performance consultancy business in APAC representing the world’s leading sales effectiveness group. He delivered major sales transformation projects with global brands across financial services, CPG, healthcare, IT, media and professional services before his company was acquired by Informa plc. Before his management consulting career James held senior sales leadership positions within News Corporation in Australia and Hong Kong. Originally from Melbourne, Australia he has spent more than 20 years living in Asia and the U.S.
Since taking over the CEO role James has grown SMI’s business by 350% and has established SMI as the gold standard for advertising revenue and cost data. SMI’s data supersedes rate cards and estimates to give the market a highly accurate and reliable view into the ad market that is not available from any other source. James is responsible for global revenue as well as relationships with a number of SMI’s largest agency partners.
